For His Own Good, 1995

For His Own Good is a black and white photograph of a dog wearing a harness and muzzle. The dog's name was Bo - he was classified a Staffordshire Bull Terrier and for the first time he is wearing the muzzle that his half sisters had to wear every time they went out - as they had been classified Pit-bull Terriers.

The photograph was set up and made for a group exhibition called Images of Masculinity at Victoria Miro gallery, London in 1995. It was produced as an edition of 3 large prints and 10 smaller ones. They were almost all bought by men.

In 2004 the image was also made into a lithographic print edition of 75.

For Zoo 1994-2017 at Andrehn Shiptjenko gallery, Stockholm , Sweden a version of this work is presented as a very large printed mural pasted to the gallery wall. See section Zoo 1994-2017
