ART WORKS
Lead by the Nose, 1997

This work was produced by The Complete Arthole*. It consists of a museum-like vitrine in which 15 human noses which were cast in lead are displayed. There is also a poster.

The work originated as a contribution to Livestock Market, an event organized in Hoxton, London, by Gavin Turk in 1997. People were invited to come and have their noses cast on the day. The plaster versions were re-cast in lead - in a somewhat informal manner. People were given their own cast noses but a version was also kept to make up the museum box. This was later shown alongside the poster as part of Second Skin curated by Stephen Feeke and Penelope Curtis at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds, 2002.

*The Complete Arthole was the collabourative name given to works made by Abigail Lane and Paul Fryer.
