ART WORKS
Sleight of Hand, 2000

Sleight of Hand is a triptych video projection made by The Complete Arthole*. The centre screen shows a magician standing in the desert, his costume glinting in the sun, performing with a deck of cards. As cards find their way into his hands they are boomeranged to and from the sand in the second screen. The third screen makes up the desert vista. The soundtrack was produced specially by Interference in London. The footage was shot in Fuerteventura with a magician who lived there.

The work was first shown in 2000 on the rooftop of Burbage House, Abigail's then home and studio, and in 2001 as another outdoor projection at Somerset House in London. In 2007 the work was shown projected onto the gallery walls at Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno, in Gran Canaria.

There are also photographs of the same title.

*The Complete Arthole was the collaborative name given to works made by Abigail Lane and Paul Fryer
