PROJECTS
SNAP, 2011 and ongoing

Launched in June 2011, SNAP is the ambitious contemporary visual arts component of the annual Aldeburgh Festival. It is based at the home of Aldeburgh Music, which is Snape Maltings on the Suffolk coast. The shows are developed and coordinated by Abigail Lane in association with Aldeburgh Music.

The exhibitions take place amongst the fabric of the infamous and established music festival. Artworks are installed on sites inside and out. Artists have used derelict buildings, the concert halls, foyers and lawns. The nature of the project, having no specific space for showing art, means that some creative thinking and solutions must often be found making it something exciting and dynamic to produce with the invited artists. The works are invariably site specific in their manifestation or adaptation. Abigail has endeavoured to develop a project with continuity of spirit, design and identity whilst maintaining that the philosophy is to encourage artists to try things they might not in other showing situations.

Alongside other artists, mostly so far chosen in part because of their connections to the area, Abigail included her own works for the first and third exhibitions. Other artists have included Sarah Lucas, who jointly initiated SNAP with her and others, Darren Almond, Don Brown, Glenn Brown, May Cornet, Mathew Darbyshire, Benedict Drew, Brian Eno, Roger Eno, Mark Fuller, Russell Haswell, Ryan Gander, Maggi Hambling, Gary Hume, Scott King, Simon Liddiment, Mark Limbrick, Emily Richardson, Johnnie Shand Kydd, Julian Simmons, Cally Spooner,  Juergen Teller, Gavin Turk, Cerith Wyn Evans.

This is an on-going annual project, information about which can be found at it’s dedicated website:
